Monastir bets on quality: 50 tourism establishments under inspection in 2026

An ambitious quality plan for Monastir's accommodation

The governorate of Monastir launched an unprecedented quality control campaign at the start of 2026. Fifty hotels, guesthouses and holiday residences are undergoing thorough inspections covering hygiene, safety, room comfort and service quality. The stated goal is clear: to align the accommodation offer with international standards and meet the growing demands of an increasingly informed clientele.

This initiative builds on a positive trend. Figures from the first quarter of 2025 revealed a 2.3% increase in overnight stays compared to the same period the previous year, an encouraging sign for the entire regional tourism sector. Industry professionals see this as proof that modernization efforts are paying off.

What travelers can concretely expect

For tourists planning to stay in Monastir in the coming months, the improvements are tangible. Several establishments have already renovated their common areas, upgraded their bedding and strengthened staff training. Hotel restaurants are now focusing on local products and renewed menus showcasing Tunisian gastronomy.

The move upmarket also means the arrival of new services: digital concierges, excursion booking apps and redesigned wellness areas. Some hotel complexes now offer premium all-inclusive packages that include water sports, guided tours and traditional cooking classes.

Monastir, a destination in full transformation

Beyond accommodation, Monastir's entire tourism infrastructure is benefiting from this momentum. Beaches are receiving enhanced maintenance, pedestrian access to the marina has been redesigned and tourist signage has been modernized in four languages. For travelers arriving at Monastir Habib Bourguiba International Airport, connections to the city center and beach areas have been optimized with more frequent and better-signposted shuttles. This comprehensive transformation confirms Monastir's ambition to position itself as a quality seaside destination on the southern shore of the Mediterranean.
